-----Wisconsin Native's Beer Cheese Soup The second recipe I have come across with popcorn floating on top. Hopefully, the popcorn doesn't get soggy that quickly. I wish that the recipe would recommend a beer.....what beer do you think should be used?

-----Funeral Potatoes are apparently a Mormon tradition. I will try this dish before I listen to the critiques. I like the now more preferred healthier dishes....but I am willing to give things a try for occasional cooking based on tradition or that the ingredients sound interesting together. I found a simple recipe (and that something like Funeral Potatoes is served at the Cracker Barrel restaurants).

Hundreds of thousands of Canadian Geese to be euthanized???!!!! Surely someone can invent a device that would keep the geese away from planes. Or perhaps a catch and release? If they really must be killed....or rather there is no way of stopping their extermination....then, there are a lot of starving people who could benefit.

I am wondering why a swimsuit pageant was necessary as a part of the Boston Celtics Dancers final audition.

Ah...after doing a little research, I found that they likely have a swimsuit calendar....that would explain it.

I still don't know why more clothing can't be worn....that it has to turn into a sexual thing instead of an entertainment thing.

True Blood is THE show to watch

This was written by guest blogger Lacey Ronin

If you have not tuned in to HBO lately, you probably don't know much about the hit show True Blood. It is based on a book series by Charlaine Harris and is set in a fictional southern town called Bon Temps. The show focuses on the life of a waitress named Sookie Stackhouse and the vampires that live in the area. Sookie's vampire boyfriend Bill Compton is another central character and the chemistry between these two is hot. I've heard they're even a couple in real life! True Blood is anything but typical and is certainly not Twilight. Even if you're not into vampire plot lines, the show does not disappoint. Creator Alan Ball does a great job at making sure the viewers never get bored. Not only is it a well-written and smart show, but it also leaves you wanting more each week. True Blood deals with themes such as death, love, the supernatural, family, drugs, and so much more. I tune into HBO via Virginia satalite tv each Sunday night to watch it live, but you can catch the show on-demand whenever you want. After a few episodes, I guarantee you'll be hooked.

Because I like messing with photos..... :-)

Romantic on Twitpic

Befjam's photo of romantic flowers....I wish Twitpic's posting feature resulted in clearer pictures (click on the picture to see the lines of the flowers in the original bigger and better). The colors in real life must be so beautiful and I love roses where the petals come to a point. I wonder if these are fragrant roses. Anyway, below is what I came up with when I experimented with the photo.

One of the rose pictures I have taken recently. Two very beautiful rosebushes.

Have you photographed a rose or other flower recently? :-)
-----A senior judge who had a fling with a male prostitute has resigned. He is also an Anglican lay preacher....I wonder how this will affect that. I feel bad for his family...and hope that they have been shielded from the publicity as best as could be done. I am not making a judgment on what was done or not done, I hope though that the former judge is able to still do some good in the world.

-----Japanese Chicken Wings. I think it would be fun to pick a few chicken wing recipes and do a Wing Night (like one of the comments to the recipe mentioned).
-----"Cream of Taco" Soup. I always love when a recipe offers variations. This is the only kind of soup that I have a tendency to scorch....I might have to practice it a few times to get good results on our temperamental stove w/my thin stock pans.

Cue the mechanical shark.....

"Where are all the other great shark movies?"

I did a search and found this list of other shark movies that are supposed to be great.....have you seen/enjoyed any of these?? Husband  has seen 7 of these movies and may have seen 3 others. Since most people I have encountered have not seen many "great shark movies" (other than Jaws).....I kiddingly asked Husband what is wrong with him.....he said that he watches Syfy and they put that stuff on there all the time.

-----Bruce the Mechanical Shark Facebook page.   Bruce was the name given to the mechanical shark(s) used for Jaws. Bruce was very problematic......  as definitely evidenced in this excerpt from "The Jaws Log."
A smaller/forgotten/AUTHENTIC Bruce was found recently.

-----Tale of a Florida man who was rewarded (some) and disappointed by his fishing experience with Jaws.

A company that does mechanical-bull-type rides....including a mechanical shark. :-)

By the way:
Have you seen that great commercial where the guy is trying to quit smoking and is so concerned about that he doesn't notice a shark on his arm until the smoking-cessation product starts working? Humorous.

USC....contributing to our future more than just on campus.

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of USC. All opinions are 100% mine.

Until this evening, I had only vaguely heard of  the USC Rossier School of Education's MAT @USC. This is an online Master of Arts in Teaching program offered by the University of Southern California. I sent for program information on this as it might help Husband finish his teaching program someday.

USC is an elite research university. Their online teaching instruction is combined with field-based experiences...and I am curious to see how in-depth the field-based aspect goes. I would assume it is like other teaching programs where a student goes and helps at some school. I admire that fact that a school whose instruction is online could co-ordinate something like student teaching in many local areas.

Another aspect that I want to learn more about is their tuition reimbursement program...a lot of schools have these for teachers I am wondering what is meant by "groundbreaking" any case, it is a VERY GOOD thing that schools and our government are now doing this. I always feel that more needs to be done for the teachers who help bring up the next generation of our country's children.
-----The Master of Arts in Teaching students can also apply for scholarships. :-)

Rossier School of Education and the MAT@USC were awarded by the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) for innovative use of technology in education. There is a blog maintained by actual students in this perspective students can get an idea of what it is really like from those already going through the training. There is also a video that introduces the program and its interactive aspects.

-----Rossier School of Education has been ranked #22 in the United States by US News and World report....#9 among all private universities.
-----USC is, of course, internationally renowned. It has a 100-year history of educating teachers!
-----Online graduates are entitled to the same student benefits as those attending on campus, can attend the actual graduation ceremony and get free lifetime alumni membership.

The first class graduates in May!

-----A Walmart worker who was fired for using legal marijuana is suing. I do agree that being on marijuana while working could be hazardous. At the same time, I feel so badly for the emotional and physical pain this man must be going through. It sounds like the gentleman involved might be qualified to do a desk job....maybe Walmart should see about something like that as a possible solution.

Introducing Your Child To The Internet The Right Way

Guest post written by Amanda Mcgovren

As an older mother I was a bit frightened when it came time to introduce my child to the computer. The main reason I was concerned was because I was new to satalite internet in stillwater ok and computers in general. I had heard some pretty terrifying stories about how children had been seduced by crazies on the internet who had done great harm to them. I was not looking forward to having to monitor such activity.

My daughter began using computers in Kindergarten and wanted to bring one into our home to learn more about their use. We agreed to do that but we were not about to hook it up to hughes internet satellite at that time. We made sure she had programs like Microsoft Word and games that would help her learn to use the options available and give her the chance to practice the keyboard.

Of course our resolve to avoid the internet vanished when we realized that we could not provide the information she needed to access with the books we had at home. We installed satellite internet service just for her and we have never been sorry that we did. With the training she has received at school and the easy access she has at home she has become a computer expert in just a few years.

I really don't think that I would celebrate any special occasion at "Hell's Kitchen." All that yelling would not fit in with celebration for me. I don't know that I would ever like seeing Ramsay yelling in person....but I do learn a lot from watching what is done right or wrong in the meal preparations on TV.

I like looking through sites that feature coupon codes and deals. This is the only way I shop for things that I need to buy from a department store anymore....things I need but not in an urgent time frame (new underwear, etc). I go online and find a coupon code for whatever store (if it is a gift, usually JCPenney).....I often find a deal good enough to knock out all shipping and handling, a clearance sale on the item AND pay less for it than if I bought it on clearance in the store.

Hunting through coupon codes takes a little effort but it is well worth it. If one coupon code does not work, you can often try another. features coupon codes from thousands of fave kind of coupon code site. :-) A lot of the coupons are for the online stores....but some listings are for deals and promos in the physical store locations. The site also has a bit of a social network element....readers can indicate when they like a deal and leave comments.

-----Amazon deals
-----Jo-Ann's Fabric coupon. This lasts until the 14th and is good for 40% off one item. We were traveling for a doctor appointment the other day and stopped at a Jo-Ann's to look for items for a project....we ended up find larger glue sticks clearanced for 10 cents! Jo-Ann's has great clearances in store....look around closely inside one of these stores sometime.
-----Soda Stream. I eventually plan on getting one of these. I am very fond of Italian Cream Sodas.
-----Starbucks. Where I would have to go if I wanted an Italian Cream Soda without owning a Soda Stream. The last time I went to a Starbucks was for Tax Day....they had a great promo where you got a free cup of coffee if you brought in a refillable mug. :-)
Of course, I had to "like" Starbucks Store Coupons on Facebook. :-)
-----Ace Hardware

For me Dell  items are something I am always interested in finding coupon codes for. I am on my second Dell and every-once-in-a-while I have to replace something that is past its usable life....a battery, adapter, etc. A Dell promo code can certainly come in handy when an unexpected replacement is in order....and mine always seem to occur when I most need the computer.
---HP coupon

I plan to go through this site more this week and make a reference list of all the stores featured that I might find myself shopping at. :-)

The CRIME of being so upset that you are a runaway.

When a child runs away is putting them in a juvenile detention facility really going to help the matter? I understand that she did not come forward with where she was hiding at....but one would think that running away would possibly have more dire consequences if a child put more effort into the attempt because he/she thought they were going to be charged with a crime. It would also seem that this child did not intend to be gone permanently. I would assume that counselors, etc. are going to talk through the upset.

I wish that more counseling efforts were taken before a child attempts to runaway.  A child does not need to always get their way....but their feelings do need to be taken into consideration. I have seen one runaway get retrieved by the state patrol.....that had to be scary....from what I could tell child did not want to live with the parent that they were being led off the Greyhound bus to go home to. I have seen other runaway issues, that I won't talk about here for the sake of those concerned, but the authorities simply allowed the child to go with whomever it was that they preferred to stay with.

I think sometimes the best answer is for a child to go stay with another relative....and have seen plenty of people do this.....even if it is for the child to just get a (secure and safe) getaway from whatever relationship or school problems.

"Little Trouble, Big Punishment: Detention for Runaways"  As this article states, surely a crisis center would be a more suitable place for runaways to be.
