Children of Men

We went to see "Children of Men" A while back.....interesting. On the movie's official website there is a commentary about this...plenty of spoiler footage there so don't watch it if you don't like spoilers.

I liked Julianne Moore's acting. I absolutely could not stand her in "The Hours", so I thought that she always acted like this....it must have been just fitting into the characters almost automaton life after all. I didn't want to go to sleep or get angry during the acting this time...during "The Hours", her parts seemed to drag on for hours.

President Bush is going to ask Congress for $8 billion in aid for Afghanistan. I would like to hear what Afghanistan is doing to help themselves as far as security & rebuilding...not saying that they are not doing anything.

And people may or may not realize it but the Taliban is still active in Afghanistan. Maybe it would be best to concentrate on removing this threat & then rebuild...I am not talking about food/clothing/shelter aid but actual rebuilding when it is likely to just get torn down again.

I don't know that the Taliban suicide attacks involve destruction of landmarks/homes/etc. but I would imagine that they do.

Maybe we need to get smarter in our fighting/reconstruction & break it down into more doable/effective steps.

To Lost Loved Ones Near & Far

Mourning is a weird process...I am unhealthy myself...but I guess I was just born into a bunch of old & unhealthy people. I seem to attract old or unhealthy people too....and I adopt them as "family." I have suffered so many lost loved ones in my lifetime.

When I reflect on this, I am sad. However I lost you & whereever you are...I miss you. If you are still with us & refuse any affection from anyone, lighten up!...you know who you are. If for some reason I cannot talk to you...distance or whatever...again, you know who you are....know that I love you with all my heart.

Everyone needs to think about this...
What can you do to honor your lost loved ones?
What can you do to fix the broken parts of your life?
What is unfinished in your relationships?

Anyway...enough depression. I am wiping away my inner tears & putting away my thoughts....just remember show love when you can.

Bear down, Chicago Bears! Put up a fight with a might so fearlessly!
We'll never forget the way you thrilled the nation with your T formation.
Bear down, Chicago Bears, and let them know why you're wearing the crown
You're the pride and joy of Illinois. Chicago Bears, bear down!

Well...if I get to go to BlogHer 2007 (and at this point I don't see any reason why I wouldn't), I want to have a bunch of songs about Chicago to entertain myself. I am going to make it a big Chicago/blogged experience. :-)

There are only 180 days to go until BlogHer 2007....which is July 27-28 in Chicago, Illinois. Yes, I am looking foward to this. I wish that it were a longer confererence but I am very excited about it. I am waiting anxiously for registration to open up.

"Grease,Your'e the One that I Want"

A new reality show that started tonight. From what I can tell it will be on every Sunday at 8/7c on NBC.

I never realized that the lyrics to "Greased Lightning" are so adult-themed. But having read about this before seeing most of the premier show tonight, I was not surprised when they bleeped certain words in the song. I just hope that uninformed viewers didn't think that the man auditioning chose to say obscenities...this is what I would have thought if I didn't know better.

I could easily see some of the auditioners in other roles...particularly the other Pink Ladies. I wouldn't necessarily see Patricia or Sunshine as Sandy....well maybe Sunshine though she doesn't have a traditional Sandy look.

And some people were just funny....particularly some of the Dannies. :-)

It was touching that one of the Dannies auditioned in memory of his brother. I am glad that he made it as far as he did. It was a good thing that you tried to do Jason & I hoped that you try for the role of Danny on some other occasion.

The Burning Love piece was enjoyable...he hit what I would think are some really difficult notes at the end.

Below is a preview of the show:

This is a casting call for someone to be in the latest Broadway production of Grease....for that reason I will be watching it. This is from the producers of "Dancing with the Stars."

I would love to see the actual production on Broadway but with our country's current political situation....I am very leery of going near New York right now. I just wouldn't feel safe. :-(

Passports Updated

U.S. Citizen traveling in Mexico, Canada, Bermuda or the Caribbean???...you will soon need a passport. Despite all the precautions being taken, I am still worried about hackers tapping into the chips in passports & using them in some malicious manner...some people always see this kind of thing as a challenge. I am becoming more convinced every day that now is not a good time to go anywhere outside of the safety/relative-safety of my own country. :-(

When I first read about this, I really wondered how it would make the United States safer. My husband pointed out that if you are a United States citizen, then you would have a passport that works when you were trying to enter this country. :-)
-As pointed out in the comments, every single one of the terrorists on 9/11 had legal paperwork...still it might be more difficult for a while at least.

New Year's Eve Mead

Mystic Mead...Wildflower blend...made from Pure Golden Honey

I also want to try another mead by the same company (Lakewood Vineyards). The mead I am interested in is called Seifu's Tej & it is supposed to be good with highly seasoned cuisine like Ethiopian or Indian food.

Right now we have a strawberry, sugar and amarreto mixture marinating in the fridge....dessert for tomorrow made by my husband. It will likely be put on top of angel food cake & have whipped cream too. I think this might be good with mead. :-)

More on Saddam (and the world right now)

Well...apparently Americans in Baghdad advised the new Iraqi government to make sure that they were taking the time to obey all laws in the execution of Saddam Hussein.

I think that rules should have been set down as to behavior while witnessing the execution....though I don't know that there are such rules here in the United States & I don't know that I wouldn't be carried away be emotion when faced with someone I felt was responsible for so many deaths. The reason that the utmost decorum (if there can be decorum in an execution) should have been observed is because this is such a volatile situation as it is....no one should do anything that might esculate it.

Maybe all sides are a little right & a lot wrong. I have been thinking about the world's fragile political situation a lot lately.
